১৯৭১ সালের ৩ মার্চ পল্টন ময়দানে স্বাধীন বাংলা ছাত্র সংগ্রাম পরিষদ কর্তৃক আয়োজিত সমাবেশে সাধারণ জনতার পক্ষ থেকে বঙ্গবন্ধুকে বাঙালি জাতিরজনক উপাধি দেন তৎকালীন ছাত্রনেতা আ স ম আব্দুর রব।
(তাহলে বঙ্গবন্ধু উপাধি? ২৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি,১৯৬৯ সালে রেসকোর্স ময়দানে এক সমাবেশে তৎকালীন ডাকসু ভিপি তোফায়েল আহমেদ শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানকে বঙ্গবন্ধু উপাধিতে ভূষিত করেন)
আর সংবিধানের ৪-ক অনুযায়ী বঙ্গবন্ধু জাতিরপিতা। যা সংবিধানের পঞ্চদশ সংশোধনীর ( ৩০ জুন,২০১১) মাধ্যমে যুক্ত করা হয়।

উত্তরঃ অনুচ্ছেদ ৪(ক): জাতিরপিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের প্রতিকৃতি রাষ্ট্রপতি, প্রধানমন্ত্রী, স্পীকার ও প্রধান বিচারপতির কার্যালয় এবং সকল সরকারী ও আধা সরকারী অফিস, স্বায়ত্তশাসিত প্রতিষ্ঠান, সংবিধিবদ্ধ সরকারী কর্তৃপক্ষের প্রধান ও শাখা কার্যালয়, সরকারী ও বেসরকারী শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান, বিদেশে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশের দূতাবাস ও মিশনসমূহে সংরক্ষণ ও প্রদর্শন করতে হবে।

The base of our foreign policy is a historic speech " Friendship to all and malice to none" which was pronounced by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The state shall base its international relations on the principles of respect for national sovereignty and equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, peaceful settlement of international disputes, and respect for international law and the principles enunciated in the United Nations Charter, and on the basis of those principles shall-
(a) strive for the renunciation of the use of force in international relations and for general and complete disarmament;
(b) upload the right of every people freely to determine and build up its own social, economic and political system by ways and means of its own free choice; and
(c) support oppressed peoples throughout the world waging a just struggle against imperialism, colonialism or racialism.
